Beyers Swanepoel, a player for Northern Cape Cricket (NCC), was announced as Cricket South Africa’s Three-Day Cricketer of the Year on Saturday (04/07).

This gala event took place as a virtual ceremony due to the restrictions imposed as result of the Covid-19 pandemic. It had the aim of honouring South Africa’s top-performing professional cricketers over the past year.

Swanepoel’s batting average was 55,57 for the Northern Cape and he took 34 wickets in 7 matches. If it wasn’t for Covid-19, Swanepoel would also have been playing for Penzance Cricket in England.

The head coach of NCC, JP Triegaardt, and player Jacques Snyman were also nominated. Triegaardt, who is now the Knights Cricket assistant coach, was nominated in the Pitchvision Provincial Coach of the Year category and Snyman in the CSA Provincial One-Day Cricketer of the Year category.

Swanepoel said receiving this award is the top highlight of his career.

The 22-year-old all-rounder said this award has shown him once again that all the hard work that he put in during the season, paid off. He feels the 2019/2020 season was the break-through season in his cricket career.

He said it was a very emotional moment when the presenters announced him as the winner.

At the time it felt unbelievable, but now he is happy for his achievement and proud of him- self. He also thanked Trie- gaardt for be- lieving in him and giving him ample opportunities to prove himself on the pitch.

Swanepoel said he played a full season for the first time in his cricket career and that gave him the momentum to build on his confidence and showing the potential he has.
