Several stakeholders are involved in assisting households in the Tsantsabane Local Municipality severely affected by recent rainfall and flooding.
A storm damaged private and public facilities and displaced over 70 families on 23 April.
According to information released by the Government Communication and Information System, the mayor, Helena English, has convened several meetings with stakeholders to plan and implement joint intervention programmes to assist affected families and provide relief.
In the latest meeting it was confirmed that the Sishen Iron Ore Company Community Development Trust (SIOC-CDT) will assist with the renovation of damaged houses and schools.
The Glosam Manganese Mine committed to repair internal roads in the townships of Maremane and Stasie, while the Kolomela Mine committed funding for the relief and rebuilding initiative.
Aqua Power contributed 30 food parcels and 79 blankets for distribution among affected families, while loveLife will provide 30 vouchers for school uniforms to learners from Newton, Postdene and Boichoko.
The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa), in cooperation with the Department of Social Development, will be paying special relief grants of R1 980 each to qualifying households.
Rooms at the Postmasburg Showground have been made available to serve as temporary shelter for affected families.
