To allow Mamas Afrika to spend quality time together, to obtain more training and to discuss different issues and successes, all Mamas were invited to attend the Clover Mama Afrika (CMA) summit in the Western Cape.
For the summit, which took place in May, Mamas came from all provinces and 49 different communities.
In an upskilling workshop the Mamas attended, they made their own jewellery to go with their shweshwe dresses. For this, each Mama received a box with beads and the necessary equipment like cutters, wire and hooks, and they had to use their own initiative to create a masterpiece.
At the end of the course they held a fashion parade with their jewellery.
“My Clover Mamas love a challenge. When they wore their newly made jewellery with their dresses the next morning, they all looked like royalty,” says prof. Elain Vlok, Clover manager, of the CMA Trust.
Some of the skills that the Mamas have been upskilled in during 2022 are sewing, welding, biscuit baking, koeksister making, mosaic, dress making, advanced biscuit making and shweshwe making.
The CMA is a sustainable corporate social Investment project that has been in existence since 2004, which has hosted 440 training sessions with over 2 313 beneficiaries over the years.
A major part of the project is the concept of skills transfer and sharing, as well as the spreading of love and comfort.
