To better entrepreneurial development amongst youth, unemployed and women, a new lease agreement was signed in Upington.
This agreement was signed on 13 July by Prof Andrew Crouch, vice-chancellor and principal of the Sol Plaatje University (SPU), and the new executive mayor, Cllr Maureen Basson, for the SPU Centre for Entrepreneurship and Rapid Incubator (CfERI).
The CfERI, funded by the Department of Small Business Development and the Small Enterprise Development Agency, was initially located within the Vaal University of Technology satellite operation in Upington.
In June last year, CfERI was transferred to SPU.
The SPU-CfERI provides business support services throughout the ZF Mgcawu District to improve economic development and unemployment in the district, while extending the footprint of SPU.
The new lease agreement provides stability for the SPU-CfERI to improve the technology and create innovative methods for SMMEs to start and scale their businesses.
- Also, the 23 Gr. 12 learners who are part of the Talent Pipeline Programme (TPP) of SPU, received certificates and medals at a recent farewell ceremony at the university. TPP was launched to support top-performing high school learners from Gr. 10 to Gr. 12 from a range of schools across the province. They take part in school holiday programmes at SPU during which they receive refresher courses on their curriculum and take part in psycho-social educational enrichment programmes to prepare them for tertiary studies.
