On Monday morning (08/08), as part of the Sol Plaatje Municipality’s revenue collection plan, the municipality commenced with the disconnecting of electricity supply to government departments.
In a press release, Thoko Riet, spokesperson of the municipality in Kimberley, said this is done due to non payment from the departments.
The disconnection commenced on Monday morning and will continue on Wednesday, she said.
“We have just disconnected the electrical supply to the Provincial Legislature, and will be switching off other departments during the course of today and Wednesday.
“We will also be disconnecting businesses that have overdue accounts.
“We want to reclaim the trust of our citizens by starting with government departments and businesses,” Riet said.
