The police in Galeshewe, Kimberley, are investigating an inquest case following the discovery of the body of a female near the Gogga pump water station along the Barkly West Road.

Sgt Timothy Sam, Galeshewe police communications officer, said on Friday, 6 January, that the age of the deceased is estimated to be between 60 and 70 years. She has two teeth in her mouth, is 1,58 m tall, and was wearing a bluish jersey top.

Her body was discovered on Friday, 23 December.

Sam said the police are requesting the assistance of the public who might assist with the identification of the deceased and investigation of the case, to contact the investigation officer on 082-469-0130, 08600-10111, or via the MYSAPS App.

  • In an unrelated statement, the police in the Northern Cape warn the public to be vigilant of police impersonators.

Brig. Mashay Gamieldien, provincial head of Corporate Communication and Liaison, said the police have become aware of persons impersonating members of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit.

Gamieldien said it is alleged that a male person approaches community members and offers assistance in cases, but then demands payment.

The public is urged to be alert and vigilant of such persons and in the event of being approached, they must request to see the SAPS appointment certificate which each police official must have in her or his possession.

“No police official will request or demand payment for any services rendered to the community,” Gamieldien said.

If you have been a victim of such conduct, you are requested to contact the local police station and provide as much information as possible that will assist the police in the apprehension and arrest of the suspect/s.

All information will be handled with the strictest confidentiality and informers may remain anonymous. They can contact the police through their emergency number 08600-10111.
