Parents or legal guardians of learners who will be in Gr. R, Gr. 1, and Gr. 8 in 2024 can now apply online.

The online learner admissions opened on Monday (22/05) and will remain open until 22 June, at 00:00.

According to the Northern Cape Department of Education (NCDOE), early enrolment is a priority for the start of a successful school year.

For all other grades, parents or legal guardians can apply directly to schools for admission and placements.

To apply online for the Gr. R, Gr. 1 and Gr. 8 learners for 2024, parents must log on to the department’s online learner admissions website at ncdoeadmissions.org to complete the application process of three steps.

These steps are: parent or legal guardian registration; learner profiling; and application. Parents must complete all three steps for the application to be completed.

Specific documents must be submitted within seven days after starting the process.

  • South African citizens need to submit the following: a copy of the parent or legal guardian identity document or card (ID) or a sworn affidavit in a case where such person does not have an ID; proof of home address (a municipal account in the name of the parent with the home address used during application, or a legal lease agreement between the tenant and the owner or landlord of the property); child’s birth certificate or an affidavit or a sworn statement; clinic card as proof of immunisation (Gr. R and Gr. 1); and the most recent Gr. 7 learner progress report.
  • Non-South African citizens need to provide: learner valid study permit, asylum seeker, refugee permit, or temporary or permanent residence issued by the Department of Home Affairs; parent or legal guardian passport or other similar documents; proof of home address; proof of immunisation (Gr. R and Gr. 1); and the most recent Gr. 7 learner progress report.

All the applications will be considered and recommended as successful or unsuccessful based on the following ranked criteria:

If the applicant learner already has a sibling attending the school of application in the year of submission (sibling means a learner who has at least one parent who is also the parent of the learner already attending that school); if the place of residence of the applicant learner is in the same suburb as the school applied to; if the place of residence of the applicant learner is adjacent to the suburb of the school applied to; if an applicant learner whose parent or guardian is an employee at the school applied to; and if places remain after all the above-mentioned applicants have been offered places, other applicants in the order of the position of the application should be recommended.

The above-mentioned directives, with regard to the criteria, shall not apply to special schools, schools of skill, or industrial schools.

The department is aware that the Northern Cape is a rural province where certain areas or towns are experiencing challenges with internet connectivity. To mitigate these and other factors which may have an impact on the online admission process, 83 walk-in centres have been identified to assist those without a device or gadget or internet connectivity to complete their application.
