The Northern Cape police’s Murder and Robbery unit are investigating a business robbery case following the violent theft of property at a local, prominent jewelery store in Kimberley on Tuesday, 18 July.

Sgt Timothy Sam, mediaspokesperson of the police, says preliminary investigations indicate that four male assailants entered the store in the North Cape Mall, closed the doors, instructed the staff at gunpoint to move to the back of the store. Here the staff were held at gunpoint by two of the assailants whilst the other two cleared all the jewelery in the shelves into bags.

The suspects then fled the store and allegedly got into a get-away vehicle that had two occupants, who fired a gun shot towards the direction of security personnel who were pursuing them. Sam said fortunately a pillar post was hit by the gun shot.

The suspects then drove off in a white Toyota Etios with cloned registration plates.
