The swift response by members of the Springbok Public Order Policing and Springbok Highway Patrol unit led to the intercepting of four men after a white Suzuki vehicle was flagged down at the Steinkopf intersection on the R382 road.

The four men fled into the veld on foot. The police members ensued and arrested them. A 9 mm pistol, two blank firing pistols, ammunition, and a substantial amount of cash were found.

The suspects will be appearing in the Springbok Magistrates’ Court on charges of possession of suspected stolen goods and possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.

Brig. Schalk Andrews, Namakwa district commissioner, commended the police members for their vigilance and swift reaction that ensured the arrest of the armed and dangerous suspects.

Andrews said intensified blue light patrols will be enhanced on all major routes in the province to derail criminals from transporting drugs on the Northern Cape roads.
