To develop youths through educational programmes in the Sol Plaatje Municipal area, a career guidance and leadership development programme has equipped hundreds of learners with essential skills and knowledge for life beyond high school.
Funded by Matla A Bokone Solar, this initiative reached learners in Gr. 9, Gr. 10, and Gr. 12 across multiple schools during the year, fostering impactful learning and growth.
“The programme has provided these young individuals with tools they need to confidently step into the future. We want to prepare them for life after high school and the world of work,” said Lesego Mosiane, community liaison officer for Matla A Bokone Solar.
The programme launched with a career expo attended by over 1 000 Gr. 12 learners of 11 local high schools. Endorsed by the Department of Education (DOE), the expo introduced learners to a wide range of career paths, and provided insights into tertiary education requirements.
Esteemed exhibitors engaged learners through interactive sessions and live displays on applications, data collection, and bursary information.
Motlalepula Bosman of the DOE Frances Baard District, thanked Matla A Bokone Solar for its contributions to the schools.
Gr. 12 learners benefited from training modules focused on self-audit, leadership, and emotional intelligence, with over 900 learners participating. The sessions encouraged learners to calculate their Admission Point Scores (APS) and provided foundational skills for emotional intelligence and leadership.
For Gr. 10 learners, modules on study skills, goal setting, and time management reached 1 385 learners across six schools, equipping them with practical tools to succeed academically. The programme included Gr. 9 learners, with 1 256 learners participating in modules on self-awareness, subject choices, and journey-mapping to plan their academic futures. The programme also assisted Gr. 12 learners with tertiary applications, encouraging them to apply strategically based on their academic profiles.
Omphile Limpane, a Gr. 12 learner at the Tshireleco High School, is grateful to receive assistance to apply for university “as I was not sure how I was going to do it.”
