The Northern Cape is the province with the highest number of vacancies for specialist medical personnel, at a staggering 46%.
This is according to Michele Clarke MP, the DA Shadow Minister of Health. In a press release on Monday (25/04), Clarke stated it was revealed in a parliamentary question that South Africa currently has a vacancy rate of 18,6% for specialist medical personnel and 13,7% for nurses.
The DA calls on the Department of Health to present solutions on filling vacancies for nurses and medical specialists as a matter of utmost urgency as these high vacancy rates undoubtedly affect the provision of quality healthcare.
