BLOEMFONTEIN – Precautionary measures to prevent the potential spread of foot and mouth disease (FMD) have been implemented at Naval Hill in the city.

In a public notice from the Mangaung Metro Municipality, it is stated that controlled access and basic biosecurity screening measures have been introduced.

Such measures may include disinfection protocols at designated entry points, monitoring and movement control where necessary, public awareness signage and compliance guidance, as well as coordination with veterinary and environmental health authorities.

Residents should take note that the following measures are now mandatory for all visitors wishing to enter the premises:

  • All vehicles entering the reserve will be sprayed with approved disinfectant.
  • All visitors are required to step through disinfectant footbaths before entry.

Mangaung Metro appeals to all residents, runners, cyclists, visitors and organised sporting groups utilising Naval Hill to cooperate fully with municipal officials during this period.

These preventative interventions are temporary and aimed at protecting the ecological integrity of Naval Hill and the broader agricultural community.
