CAPE TOWN – Only days after 10 people were killed and 11 injured in a Lwandle tavern shooting, four more people have been killed in another Cape Town shooting. Police in the Western Cape have launched a manhunt for four armed suspects after three men and one woman were gunned down in Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain, on Wednesday evening.

The incident unfolded at approximately 23:15 on 30 September. Police responded to reports of gunfire in Blombos Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered two men with gunshot wounds. Both were declared dead at the scene.

A third victim, who had also been shot, was found in Eisleben Road a short distance away. It is believed he had attempted to flee from the attackers before succumbing to his injuries. He was also declared dead at the scene.

A woman who sustained serious gunshot wounds during the attack was transported to hospital for emergency medical treatment. Her condition has been described as critical.

Four gunmen in white Nissan Almera

Western Cape police spokesperson Colonel André Traut said it is alleged that four armed suspects, travelling in a white Nissan Almera with tinted windows, approached the victims and opened fire before fleeing the area.

The motive for the shooting has not yet been officially established and remains a key focus of the ongoing investigation. Police are, however, actively following up on information pointing to a possible gang-related motive.

Anti-Gang Unit takes over investigation

Detectives attached to the Anti-Gang Unit have taken charge of the case, investigating three counts of murder. Investigators are following up on all available leads, canvassing the surrounding area for possible CCTV footage and appealing to witnesses who may be able to assist in identifying the suspects to come forward.

Provincial commissioner expresses concern

Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Sizakhele Dyantyi expressed concern over the loss of life and has called on investigators to move swiftly in identifying and apprehending those responsible for the attack.

The shooting adds to the growing toll of gun violence in Mitchells Plain. Earlier this year, in February, a separate shooting in the same Lentegeur area sparked suspected gang retaliation, with community leaders warning of escalating gang tensions.

Public urged to come forward

Police are urging anyone with information regarding the incident or the whereabouts of the suspects to contact the investigating officer or Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Information can also be provided anonymously via the MySAPS mobile application.

The identities of the deceased have not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

The latest shooting brings Cape Town township shooting deaths in September to 45.
