A 59-year-old woman was shot and killed on Dullah Omar Street in Mandela Park, Khayelitsha, early on Friday morning while reportedly helping her child into a school minibus.
Provincial police spokesperson Thembeka Mpendukana said the 59-year-old woman succumbed to injuries sustained to her upper body and was declared deceased at the scene. She said the investigation continues and no arrest has been made.

Mother killed at school transport stop
A community leader in the area, who refused to be named, fearing of harassment, said it is alleged that the woman was assisting her child into the school transport when the incident happened.
“It was reported that an unknown vehicle pulled up and opened fire while she was busy helping her child into the minibus taxi. The driver of the school transport fled, leaving the woman alone, and they shot and killed her. We don’t know the motive,” said the leader.
Heartbreaking during Women’s Month
He said it is heartbreaking to witness such incidents during Women’s Month. He appealed to anyone with a lead on the incident to contact the police.
