WELKOM – A 53-year-old man was shot dead and his wife was wounded during a shooting at their home in the Reahola Complex in Bedelia, Welkom, on Friday evening.
The Welkom Serious and Violent Crimes (SVC) unit is investigating cases of murder and attempted murder following the incident.
Police were called to the complex at approximately 18:47 on 14 August. On arrival, officers found the man lying motionless on the floor with multiple gunshot wounds to his head.
A 46-year-old woman was also found at the scene with a gunshot wound to her right thigh.
Emergency Medical Services personnel attended the scene and declared the man dead. The injured woman was transported to hospital for medical treatment.
According to police, the man had been standing outside his home before the shooting. His wife reportedly heard gunshots, after which her husband ran into the house.
It is alleged that an unidentified man followed him into the house while firing several shots. The victim was fatally wounded.
The suspect allegedly also fired at the woman before fleeing the scene.
The motive for the shooting remains unknown and no arrests have been made.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have information that could assist in identifying and apprehending the suspect to come forward.
