The Limpopo police’s new provincial management team brings a combined 126 years of police experience to the province as the organisation seeks to strengthen policing, crime detection and service delivery.

Provincial Commissioner Lt. Gen. Jan Scheepers formally introduced the team during a media briefing recently in Polokwane.

The management team consists of Maj. Gen. Fredrinah Sebola (Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Corporate Services); newly appointed Maj. Gen. Lesiba Mashilo (Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing); and newly appointed Maj. Gen. Willy Mashava (Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection).

Scheepers said the appointments must result in measurable improvements in policing and service delivery.

“These appointments must translate into stronger leadership, better coordination and improved service delivery to the public. Our communities must experience the difference through professional conduct, quicker responses, quality investigations and respectful treatment at every police service point,” said Scheepers.

Sebola has 19 years of service and continues in her position to which she was appointed on 1 October 2025. During her career, she has served as chief audit executive, management intervention, national head for executive support and international relations.

Her experience in corporate governance, accountability, organisational performance and support services is expected to contribute to the stability and effectiveness of the police in Limpopo.

Major General Mashilo brings 37 years of experience to his new position overseeing policing. Over the years he has served in work study, organisational development and strategy, strategic management, operations management and support services. He previously served as the District Commissioner of the Capricorn District. His responsibilities will include strengthening visible policing, crime prevention, operational coordination, police responsiveness and community-centred service delivery across the province.

Major General Mashava will apply his 38 years of service which include experience in detective services, organised crime and crime prevention to his new role. He previously served as District Commissioner of the Mopani District.

Mashava will also oversee crime detection, with a focus on strengthening investigations, improving case management and promoting cooperation with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and other criminal justice partners.

The Scheepers congratulated Mashilo and Mashava on their appointments and acknowledged Sebola for her continued contribution to the provincial management team. He called on the leadership team to carry out their responsibilities with integrity, professionalism, humility and dedication.

Local government to fight crime together

In the meantime, MEC for Transport and Community Safety in Limpopo, Nakedi Kekana, welcomed these immediate appointments. She says the aim is to strengthen crime fighting, improving support services and restoring stability in the province.

“On behalf of the Limpopo Provincial Government, we congratulate the newly appointed Major Generals. These are not new faces, they are experienced officers who have walked the beat, led operations and understand the challenges of Limpopo,” said Kekana.

She also thanked Scheepers for his role in filling the vacancies.

“We particularly thank Lieutenant General Scheepers for his decisive leadership in filling these critical vacancies. We wish Major General Sebola, Major General Mashava and Major General Mashilo all the best in their new responsibilities. Our communities are looking up to you to make Limpopo safe,” she said.

Kekana and the top management will meet this week to discuss the provincial crime prevention strategy and joint operations for the festive season.

The recent publication of the first quarter crime statistics for 2026/2027, which was recorded from April 2026 to June 2026, showed concerning increases in some crimes. Attempted murder increased by 11,5% and commercial crime by 8,8%. It was also recorded that contact sexual offences increased from 11 counts during April 2025 to June 2025 compared to 21 counts during the same period this year.
