EKURHULENI: A light aircraft crashed into the tuck shop at Hoërskool Alberton in Ekurhuleni on Sunday morning.

No one was injured in the incident, according to City of Ekurhuleni emergency services who were on the scene.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) also confirmed that both the pilot and instructor aboard the aircraft escaped unharmed when the plane came down at the school premises earlier today.

Circumstances around the incident are under investigation by relevant authorities.

GDE officials have assured parents and pupils that the incident will not affect normal schooling activities or the ongoing National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations.

However, the school’s tuck shop has been temporarily put out of action. Parents have been advised to ensure their children bring packed lunches to school.

The GDE praised the swift response from the school’s management team, emergency services, and aviation authorities in dealing with the unexpected situation.
