Police drug bust in Jeffreys Bay leads to teen arrest

JEFFREYS BAY – An 18-year-old teen has been arrested for drug dealing after police confiscated crystal methamphetamine and Mandrax with an estimated street value of R5,000 from the premises in Calata Street, Ocean View, Jeffreys Bay, following a joint intelligence-driven operation on 7 July.

According to police spokesperson Captain Marius McCarthy, on 7 July the Humansdorp Crime Intelligence Unit acted on information received regarding suspected drug dealing activities within the Jeffreys Bay area.

He said the information was immediately operationalised together with the Jeffreys Bay Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and a search warrant was secured and executed at the identified premises.

“Upon searching the premises, police found and confiscated suspected narcotics that include crystal methamphetamine (Tik) and methaqualone (Mandrax) with an estimated street value of more than R5,000,” said McCarthy.

He said the suspect found in possession of the illicit drugs was arrested on the spot for dealing in drugs under Section 5 of the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act of 1992.

McCarthy said the suspect was due to appear before the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court soon.

The Sarah Baartman District Commissioner, Major General Thandiswa Kupiso, commended the men and women in blue for their swift, intelligence-driven response in ensuring the success of the operation.

“Information from the community is key to our success, and these illegal dens or any criminal activities should be reported to the police,” said Kupiso.
