JEFFREYS BAY – Three suspects were arrested and a substantial quantity of illicit narcotics seized in Jeffreys Bay on 2 September, following a coordinated, multi-agency, intelligence-driven operation across two separate premises in the area.
According to police spokesperson Captain Marius McCarthy, the team formed part of a massive, ongoing interprovincial, cross-border operation across the Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Free State and Northern Cape provinces.
He said the coordinated tracking initiative targets criminal syndicates and illegal supply lines moving across provincial boundaries.
McCarthy said the Jeffreys Bay leg of the operation was executed through the joint efforts of members attached to Humansdorp Crime Intelligence, the Jeffreys Bay Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).
He said, acting on verified intelligence regarding alleged drug possession and dealing, teams operationalised search warrants in terms of Section 22 of the Criminal Procedure Act, 1977 (Act 51 of 1977).
“The operation targeted two identified locations that were searched. In total, the operation successfully removed 451.5 Mandrax tablets and 50g of Tik from the streets, leading to three active criminal dockets for drug possession and dealing,” said McCarthy.
He said SAPS management had commended the seamless collaboration between Crime Intelligence, local Crime Prevention units, the SANDF and the broader interprovincial teams for effectively disrupting drug supply lines and making local communities safer.
McCarthy said the three suspects are expected to appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court soon.
