An Ezibeleni woman is crying foul after police have allegedly failed to help her open a case against her knife wielding drug addicted son on numerous occasions.
The woman who has remained anonymous since her son was unable to give comment said that her son’s problems started in 2020 when he got addicted to drugs.
She said that he stopped using drugs for some time and went back to high school, however, he began using again and while at a block of flats in Ezibeleni he randomly stabbed a tenant.
“He was also stabbed in the altercation and police were called. He was very aggressive. I had never seen anything like that. At one stage he threw a stone at one of my tenants as I have flats. I called the police, and they never came. This was in 2020,” she said.
She said that he previously pelted police vans with stones and police have since refused to attend to her case.
She said that on August 1, her son asked for money to buy cigarettes and she refused.
“He drew a knife, and I ran to my neighbours asking for help. We called the police and they said there were no vans. He even threatened to kill me, and I am very scared of him,” she said.
“A neighbour came and said we should go to the police. The police said my son hits police officers and if they hurt my son they would lose their jobs. But eventually we went to my house with the police. We were willing to help the police arrest him. The police took him to Frontier Hospital and we were hoping he would be discharged and go to a rehabilitation centre.”
She said that she first reported her son to the police on May 13 then on July 26 and finally on August 1.
“When we got there, around 23:00, there were two police vans. There were two police officers, and the door was locked. The police spoke to me through the window. I told them my son wants to stab me. They said they were looking after the police station and if they left the station would be burgled into. They just advised me to go sleep at another house. I am grateful that I am still alive. The police have failed me dismally,” she said.
Numerous attempts were made to get comment from police spokesperson Captain Namhla Mdleleni since sending the first media query on August 3, however, no feedback was received.
