Joint operation seizes R12 million in illicit alcohol in Stellenbosch

STELLENBOSCH — In a major blow to the underground alcohol trade, a coordinated law enforcement blitz has resulted in the seizure of illicit liquor valued at a staggering R12 million in Plankenburg, Stellenbosch.

The high-stakes operation was a joint effort between the South African Police Service (SAPS), the Western Cape Liquor Board, and the SARS Customs Unit.

The breakthrough came after the Western Cape Liquor Board flagged suspicious activity and provided crucial intelligence regarding an illicit liquor storage facility operating in the industrial area of Plankenburg.

While the multi-million-rand haul represents a significant victory for law enforcement, the warehouse was empty of suspects at the time of the bust.

SAPS has confirmed that a case docket has been opened for further investigation. No arrests have been made, but police are actively pursuing leads to track down the individuals behind the massive distribution hub.

Authorities urge anyone with information regarding illicit trading in the area to come forward. Police investigations continue.
