The golden era of song returns to the Civic Auditorium this Sunday afternoon, when singer Louise Howlett, pianist Albert Combrink and double bassist Dylan Tabisher present As Time Goes By – an intimate concert of timeless favourites from the vintage age of popular music.

Audiences can expect a programme drawn from the enduring catalogues of Harold Arlen, Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Edith Piaf and more – songs that have shaped the soundtrack of generations and lost none of their power to move, charm and delight.

The trio brings a formidable depth of musicality to the stage. Soprano Louise Howlett is a classically trained vocalist who moves effortlessly between opera, jazz and Broadway, bringing a warmth and versatility that few singers can match.

Off stage, she is a passionate advocate for classical music and a familiar voice on Fine Music Radio, where she shares her love of the art form with listeners across the Western Cape.

At the piano, Albert Combrink is celebrated as a performer, speaker, historian and teacher whose playing combines technical finesse with a deep understanding of musical context. His insights into the stories behind the songs promise to enrich the audience’s appreciation of every piece.

Holding the musical foundation on double bass is Dylan Tabisher, a multi-faceted musician equally at home performing percussion with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra or laying down jazz lines in a Cape Town club. His presence adds a rich rhythmic and melodic texture that rounds out the trio’s sound.

The concert takes place on Sunday, 11 October, at 15:30 at the Civic Auditorium, Hermanus – a relaxed afternoon setting ideal for this kind of programme.Tickets are R270, with a special rate of R80 for students, making the event accessible to younger audiences eager to discover the classics.
