A bike-blossoming weekend to look forward in Grabouw

Mountain bikers from across the Overberg and beyond are gearing-up for one of the region’s most scenic rides, as the Tiletoria Bikes2Blossoms marks its 25th edition this Saturday 10 October, in the Elgin-Grabouw Valley.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of orchards and vineyards in full Spring blossom, the event – sanctioned by Cycling South Africa and serving as the Western Cape XCM Series final – offers three route options catering to riders of every level.

The long route covers 66 km with roughly 1 500 m of climbing, combining Elgin Valley and Grabouw Forest trails before finishing on the acclaimed Oak Valley single-track. Fit riders with intermediate technical ability can expect around five hours in the saddle, with a start at 08:45. The 40 km medium route features about 1 100 m of elevation over an estimated three and a half hours, starting at 09:30. The 25 km short route, with approximately 792 m of climbing and a 10:00 start, is ideal for recreational riders and newcomers to the sport.

E-bike entries are welcome across the longer distances. Entry fees range from R350 for the short route to R650 for the long-route e-bike category. Registration and assembly open from 07:30 at the Dragonfly Tri gazebo on the Oak Valley Estate rugby fields. The event is organised by Dragonfly Tri, with title sponsor Tiletoria and support from Peregrine Farm Stall, Trail’s End Bike Hotel and the Elgin Grabouw Country Club. For details, contact Dragonfly Tri on 083 299 3905 or events@dragonflytri.co.za.
