Heavy truck crash closes N6 between Smithfield and Reddersburg

REDDERSBURG – The Free State Road Incident Management System (FSRIM) recommends that motorists avoid the N6 road between Smithfield and Reddersburg, which is temporarily closed following an accident involving a truck.

Sipho Towa, provincial spokesperson for the management authority, said the truck was blocking both traffic lanes, making it impossible for traffic to pass, and advised motorists to use alternative routes. He said authorities were on the scene trying to clear the road, adding that the driver escaped unharmed.

“It is estimated clearing will take a number of hours due to heavy vehicle recovery and rehabilitation work,” said Towa.

The cause of the accident is yet to be established. Further details will be provided as they become available.

Motorists are advised to use the following alternative routes:

  1. From Bloemfontein: Use N1 south, then exit at Springfontein/Bethulie back to N6.
  2. From Smithfield: Take R701 via Bethulie to Springfontein, then join N1 north to Bloemfontein.
