Another bus accident in Free State: no fatalities reported

SMITHFIELD – Another bus accident has occurred in the Free State on the N6 highway south of Bloemfontein — the second such accident within 48 hours. The latest accident reportedly happened at about 06:21 on Saturday morning, between Smithfield and Reddersburg.

Mondli Mvambi, spokesperson for the Free State Department of Health, said that, according to information provided, the bus veered off the road and overturned, adding that provincial emergency services had been dispatched to attend to injured passengers at the scene.

“No fatalities have been reported as yet. The Emergency Medical Service team is attending only to people with critical injuries so far,” said Mvambi, adding that an update will be provided as emergency teams, including rescue services, assess the situation. Motorists using the route are advised to drive with caution when approaching the area where the accident occurred. It is unclear what happened that caused the bus to veer off the road and overturn.
This is the second bus accident to occur within 48 hours in the Free State, following a fatal bus crash on Thursday night on the N1 highway involving a bus travelling from Cape Town to Zimbabwe.
