A massive boulder crashed down a hillside and blocked the only road to one of Rhodes’ most popular beaches, leaving scores of tourists stranded for hours.
The rock broke loose during a landslide on Thursday and tumbled onto the access road to Anthony Quinn Bay, a scenic cove on the Greek island.
About 100 vehicles and their occupants were stuck on the beach until emergency crews managed to restore partial access, state news agency ANA reported.
The beach takes its name from Hollywood legend Anthony Quinn, who filmed the 1961 war epic “The Guns of Navarone” at the location.
Authorities reported no injuries from the falling boulder, which tore free from a hill overlooking the bay.
The incident came just a day after severe flooding hit Rhodes on Wednesday. A hotel worker (62) died when his car was swept out to sea.
Emergency crews continued working on Friday to fully restore access to the beach.
