CAPE TOWN – Divorce proceedings are underway between actress Angelique Gerber and former Springbok rugby player Jacques Potgieter, just months after the couple attempted to reconcile their troubled marriage.
Gerber’s lawyer confirmed on 14 October that the couple had separated again and that the divorce was proceeding in the best interests of their three children, according to reports in Netwerk24 and The South African.
The couple attempted a reconciliation between July and September 2026, after Potgieter’s four-year relationship with Lizane “Lalla” Wagner ended in June. During that period, Potgieter stated publicly they were “never divorced” and shared social media posts with Gerber.
The reconciliation collapsed in early October. Gerber posted cryptic social media messages interpreted as alleging betrayal, while Potgieter began deleting photographs with Gerber from his social media accounts.
Gerber and Potgieter married in June 2016 at Eureka Estate near Durbanville. They have three children: Jacques Jr, born in 2016, and identical twin daughters Annabella and Olivia, born in 2018.
The marriage first showed public signs of strain in July 2021, when posts alleging infidelity appeared on Potgieter’s Instagram account. He claimed the account had been hacked. At the time, Gerber stated the couple remained “steadfastly committed to each other, our children and our marriage”.
By February 2022, News24 reported the marriage was effectively over, though the couple had not formalised a divorce. Potgieter’s relationship with Wagner became public in December 2022.
In May 2023, Gerber publicly alleged she received little or no financial support from Potgieter for their children.
Potgieter, who played for the Springboks between 2012 and 2014, is currently head coach of Centurion Rugby Club. He previously played for the Blue Bulls, Sharks and French club Toulon.
No court docket number, filing date or divorce decree has been publicly disclosed. Potgieter has not publicly commented on the latest reports.
