KEMPTON PARK – The South African Police Service (SAPS) has intensified investigations into the deaths of four women whose bodies were discovered in the Kempton Park area over approximately two months.

The latest body was found on Saturday evening, prompting police to issue a public warning to women in and around Kempton Park, particularly in the Rhodesfield area.

Similarities raise concerns

According to preliminary information gathered by detectives, the women’s bodies were found half-naked and with visible bruising. The discovery sites are also located within the same vicinity.

Although SAPS has not confirmed that the deaths are linked to a serial killer, the similarities have raised serious concerns and prompted the mobilisation of specialised investigative resources.

Police are working to establish the circumstances surrounding each death and determine whether the cases are connected.

Acting National Commissioner of SAPS, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, has directed the Gauteng Provincial Commissioner to establish a dedicated multidisciplinary task team to investigate the cases.

The team will include detectives from specialised units, including the Murder and Robbery Unit and the Investigative Psychology Unit, along with other relevant disciplines and resources.

The task team will be led by Gauteng Deputy Provincial Commissioner Major General Mbuso Khumalo, who has been tasked with ensuring that all investigative avenues are pursued to identify those responsible.

Women urged to remain vigilant

SAPS is urging women in and around Kempton Park to take precautions, particularly when walking or exercising in isolated areas.

Residents are advised to:

• Avoid walking or running alone, especially in secluded areas.
• Remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
• Travel or exercise in groups where possible.
• Avoid isolated locations, particularly when visibility is poor.

Police said the safety of women remains a priority and that specialised resources have been mobilised to investigate the deaths.

SAPS is appealing to residents, motorists, security personnel and other members of the community who may have witnessed suspicious activity in Rhodesfield and surrounding areas to provide information.
