The Flying Squad, working with crime intelligence, recovered six stolen vehicles and arrested a 24-year-old man in Mandalay.

Acting on information, the team went to a house in Dickens Drive, Mandalay, where they found a Toyota Starlet that had been hijacked in Harare last week.

They then went to a second address in Melderson Road, where they found four VW Polos and a Toyota Hilux on Friday 11 September.

Vehicles linked to hijackings across Cape Town

The unique identification numbers on the vehicles had been tampered with, and some had been removed entirely.

Further investigation showed that some of the vehicles were connected to hijacking cases reported at Cape Town Central, Woodstock, and Muizenberg Police Stations between July and September.

The 24-year-old suspect is due to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court on Monday 14 September.
