R975 000 worth of explosives seized in N1 stop-and-search operation

WATERBERG – Two foreign nationals have been arrested after police seized explosives valued at approximately R975 000 during a stop-and-search operation at Kranskop Plaza on the N1 South in Limpopo.

The suspects, aged 30 and 43, were arrested at approximately 04:45 on Friday, 30 October, by members of the Waterberg Flying Squad.

A routine stop-and-search operation on the N1 South led to the arrest of two men and the seizure of explosives valued at approximately R975 000

Police were conducting routine stop-and-search operations when they stopped a white Toyota Quantum occupied by two adult male foreign nationals.

During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered bags containing explosives. When asked to produce the necessary documentation or permits authorising the transportation of the explosives, the occupants failed to provide any.

Both men were subsequently arrested on charges of transporting explosives and illegal possession of explosives.

Police confiscated the explosives, estimated to be worth R975 000, as well as the white Toyota Quantum allegedly used to transport them.

Limpopo Provincial Commissioner of Police, Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers, commended the Waterberg Flying Squad members for their vigilance and dedication.

He said their actions had resulted in the arrest of the suspects and the seizure of dangerous explosives, preventing them from remaining in unauthorised hands.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 2 November.
