The Stellenbosch Local Drug Action Committee (LDAC) seeks to improve the coordination and integration activities aimed at combating substance abuse.

The committee promotes partnerships among government departments, community organisations, and other stakeholders involved in delivering services and programmes that address substance abuse and mitigate its impact on individuals, families and communities.

The Stellenbosch LDAC is guided by the National Drug Master Plan and receives overarching support from the Western Cape government.

Marking milestones

On Friday 26 June, the Stellenbosch Municipality’s Community Development Department, in partnership with the Stellenbosch LDAC, commemorated International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

As part of the commemoration the department supported the Hesketh King Treatment Centre in Muldersvlei in recognising the significant impact of its work in transforming the lives of persons living with substance-use disorders through its treatment and rehabilitation programmes.

The event included a Milestone Ceremony celebrating the recovering journeys of programme participants and recognising their resilience, determinations and commitment to renewal.

The ceremony also served as an opportunity to remember and honour those who continue to struggle with addiction.

The event was attended by representatives from the Stellenbosch GBV Centre, the provincial government, Stellenbosch police’s forensic department and other local stakeholders committed to strengthening collaborative efforts in preventing substance abuse and supporting recovery within the Stellenbosch community.
