Unie Park tree planting
As part of national Environment Month celebrations, the Friends of the Arboretum, Stellenbosch mayor Jeremy Fasser, Ward 7 councillor Annemarie Ferns and Stellenbosch Municipality’s Urban Forestry team gathered in Unie Park to implement the next phase of tree planting at the local public open space. What started as a vision to create this beautiful, accessible green space for communities in 2005 continues to flourish. Fasser proudly planted a tree in the arboretum, saying: “With this arboretum, we invite people to enjoy the outdoors and confirm our commitment to safeguarding green spaces that will be enjoyed for generations to come.” The municipality thanked its dedicated Urban Forestry team and all partners who continue to help transform the vision into reality. “Together, we’re planting more than just trees – we’re growing community, creating lasting memories and investing in a greener municipality for future generations,” a municipal statement read.
