Stellenbosch Municipality
Stellenbosch Municipality, in collaboration with DeafNET, hosted a South African Basic Sign Language certificate ceremony on Saturday 17 October to recognise learners from Kayamandi, Cloetesville, Wemmershoek and Lanquedoc who successfully completed the course facilitated by DeafNET. The ceremony celebrated the learners’ dedication, perseverance and commitment to learning Basic South African Sign Language, an important step towards improving communication and fostering greater understanding between deaf and hearing communities. The municipality is committed to building an accessible and inclusive municipal area through the implementation of its Universal Access Policy. This commitment promotes equality, dignity and equal access to municipal services and facilities for all residents, including persons with disabilities. Through partnerships such as this initiative with DeafNET, the municipality continues to advance inclusive communication, strengthen community participation and contribute towards a society where everyone is valued, respected and empowered to participate fully.
