The winners of the Top 8 (President’s Cup) and Bottom 8 (Challenger’s Cup) in Super League A, B and C were determined at City Park in Athlone on Saturday 19 September.
Teams from the greater Stellenbosch who were in action in the finals were victorious in all the matches they were involved in.
Kylemore RFC were the winners of the SLC President’s Cup, after they clinched a nail-biting but deserving 29-26 win over neighbours Pniël Villagers.
The stage was set for an enticing duel, and both sides certainly delivered as the match went down to the wire and had spectators on the edge of their seats at a packed City Park. The match was a display of talent, sportsmanship and feast of running rugby, firmly showcasing the growing rugby talents of the Dwars River Valley.
Meanwhile, in the SLC Challenger’s Cup, Raithby Universals showed grit and determination to triumph 22-12 over Langa in the final.
In Super League A, league champions Villager were also crowned the winners of SLA President’s Cup after they drew 20-20 with Hamilton. Villager took the spoils as they were ranked higher in the league.
In SLA Challenger’s Cup Kuils River beat Brackenfell 41-22. Kuils River progressed to the final after Primrose forfeited their semi-final.
In the quarter-final Kuils River dispatched Van der Stel-Evergreens by 127-0 and VDE was the only team who fulfilled their commitment for this fixture by fielding mostly their under-20 players.
UCT, Maties and UWC forfeited their matches in the quarters due to USSA commitments.
In SLB, Kraaifontein fell short in the Top 8 when they were beaten by CPUT by 31-16 in a match where CPUT bid farewell to their coach Alastair Theys.
In the Bottom 8 All Saints sent Vineyards packing with a 22-17 victory.
In the Northern League, Blue Stars United, who have already won promotion to Super League D next year, bowed the knee to Stellenbosch-Coronations in Ida’s Valley by 35-28. Blakes were also on the losing side at their home ground, with Morning Star United recording a 19-21 victory. Cloetesville also could not withstand the onslaught of Fisantekraal (35-55) and Police Blackheath were too strong for Faure (31-21).
