Saturday 7 November will see residents of Jamestown welcoming visitors to their hometown as the popular annual Strawberry Festival brings a sweet celebration with unique community togetherness and flair.

The event, hosted by the Jamestown Community Trust, has become a must-attend event for young and old, with a host of stalls lining Webersvalley Road.

Jamestown is a rare gem tucked away among the mountains and valleys of Stellenbosch, The annual Strawberry Festival is the community’s premier event, as the town opens its “doors” to visitors from across the region.

Community unites

The community project celebrates Jamestown’s heritage of strawberry farming. For generations, strawberries have been the crop of choice for the village’s small-scale farmers, with the know-how passed from parents to children.

This year, the market is entirely home-grown: the festival is hosted by the Jamestown community in support of the Jamestown Community Trust, a registered NPO working for a safe, clean community and for the preservation of the town’s heritage.

Jamestown’s roots go back to 1902, and the community has long been known for its strawberry fields.

From 07:00 to 15:00 on 7 November, locally-manned stalls will offer fresh strawberries, home-made food, crafts and treats. There will also be fresh vegetables, baked goods and tea gardens, local dishes and music to liven the mood.

Admission to the festival is free.
