Subcouncil 8 honoured its outgoing ward committee members at a special sitting last Thursday (27 August), recognising their five years of community service.

Forty-six members from all seven wards in the subcouncil received certificates at the council chambers in Strand.

Ward committees are made up of elected residents who bring community needs and concerns to councillors, provide input on planning and budgets, and represent their communities in the Integrated Development Plan process.

The members honoured were:

• Ward 15 (Somerset West and Parel Vallei): Eelco de Vries, Hendrik Smit, Louise Smith, Anthony van Minnen, Jillian Appollis, James Visser and Peter Brand;

• Ward 83 (Somerset West and parts of Strand): Dennis Malan, Daantjie Malan, Herman Swiegers, Matthew Dietrich, Philip Versfeld and André van Rensburg;

• Ward 84 (Bizweni, Somerset West, Sir Lowry’s Pass and parts of Strand): Debre Katts, Mmamatebele Shopane, Steven Louw, Benjamin Cronje, Athi Ndwebi and Edward de Villiers;

• Ward 85 (Nomzamo and parts of Strand): Phillipine Maake, Ezekie Ntoni, Sandile Ndayi, Thandiwe Mtimkulu, Zukile Mthobela, Gerdia Viljoen and Mandla Geja;

• Ward 86 (Lwandle and Nomzamo): Yandisa Magagana, Mpho Mosiuoa, Sindile Ncedana, Vusumzi Zweni, Thandisile Fatyelwa, Siyabonga Macaula, Lulama Bobi and Asive Tofu;

• Ward 100 (Gordon’s Bay and parts of Strand): Eveline van Berggen, Basil Cranko, Frank Hendricks, Rashaad Haynie, Balekile Damons, Deon Goosen, Petronella Meyer, Lee-Ann Strydon and Abduraghmaan Basardien;

• Ward 109 (Croydon, Faure, Firgrove and Macassar): Brian Louw, Elroy Apollis, Arnold Arendse, Henry Mark Baatjies, Titus Cookson and Felicity Solomons.
