Two hikers were assisted by rescue personnel after losing their way while descending West Peak in the Helderberg Nature Reserve above Somerset West on the evening of Saturday 19 July.
According to a report by Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR), the two stranded hikers, aged 34 and 49, realised that they would not be able to find their way back before the reserve gates closed, and the pair contacted the emergency number โ 021 937 0300 โ for help. Rangers were dispatched to locate the two women.
“The hikers, who were uninjured, were found in good spirits and safely guided back down to the entrance,” the report stated.
The incident was concluded at 19:28, when everybody was confirmed off the mountain.
