With only one or two games remaining in the regular club rugby season, local clubs across the basin continue fighting for vital league positions.

This week, we provide a round-up for local clubs as we head into the final weeks of the 2026 season.

Super League A

Helderberg RFC produced a clinical and entertaining performance under the Wednesday-night lights at Charles Morkel Stadium on 29 July, securing an emphatic 48-21 victory over SU Maties.

The home side wasted no time putting Maties under pressure. Just four minutes in, Darren Hendricks crossed over for the opening try, converted by Michael Visser.

Berge continued to dominate, adding four more first-half tries through Erhard Lambrecht, Jayden Daniels, Dian Koen (converted by Visser) and Hughwan Engelbrecht. Maties managed a late response via McKyle Volmoer (converted by Charles Vosloo), but the hosts went into the break firmly in control at 29-7.

Visser added two penalties early in the second half to stretch the lead. Despite a spirited Maties fightback with tries by CJ Erasmus and Zuko Poswa (both converted by Vosloo), Visser added a third penalty before late tries by Ricardo Links and Junior Fortuin put the final touches on a 48-21 triumph.

Sitting second in Super League A with 53 points (10 wins, one draw, three losses), Berge now face their final league game, an away encounter against UCT Ikeys on Saturday 8 August.

Super League B

Macassar RFC played out a thrilling 27-27 draw against Violets on Saturday (1 August). Despite being at the summit for most of the season, the MC Boys currently sit in fourth place with 11 wins and a game in hand. They are guaranteed to remain in Super League B next season.

All Saints find themselves precariously placed in ninth position. With the bottom eight teams slated for relegation to Super League C, the Olla Boys must win their final match to have a chance of sneaking into the top eight.

Following a 19-33 defeat to Kraaifontein on Saturday, St George’s remain 14th in the standings and will feature in Super League C in 2027.

Super League C

Saturday’s local derby saw Sir Lowrians stage a second-half comeback to claim a 10-21 victory over Raithby Universals.

RU dominated the opening 20 minutes, racing into a 10-0 lead. Sir Low cut the deficit to 10-6 by half-time thanks to two penalty goals by flyhalf Cheraldwin Damons.

The Navy Train came out firing after the break – outside back Ashley Stefanus crossed within five minutes to give them the lead (10-11), followed by a powerful 10-metre rolling maul try from Denzil Adendorff (10-16). Full-back Lincoln Koopman sealed the win with a late try (10-21).

Sir Low are eighth on the log with 38 points, while RU are 11th with 31 points. Both teams sit safely in the fifth to 12th bracket, confirming their placement in the new Super League D for 2027.

Strand RFC (14th) and Strand United (15th) occupy the bottom spots in Super League C, so both clubs face immediate relegation from Super League C to the regional leagues for 2027.

Northern League

Faure ground out a narrow 22-20 victory over Morning Star United on Saturday, placing them in fourth place on the log.

Gordon’s Bay Pioneers suffered a tough 57-5 loss to log leaders Blue Stars United. With Blue Stars United (65 points) clinching first place and only one team gaining promotion to Super League D, both Faure and Gordon’s Bay Pioneers will remain in the Northern League next season.
