
Somerset West police have arrested several suspects in connection with a cash-in-transit robbery at a discount grocery store in Sir Lowry’s Pass on Tuesday morning (25 November).
The incident occurred around 10:30 at the store which is located along Old Sir Lowry’s Pass Road when an armed suspect targeted a Fidelity Services Group security guard who was collecting money from the premises.
“A cash-in-transit robbery is under investigation after a Fidelity guard, who was collecting money from the store, was held at gunpoint and robbed of an undisclosed amount of money,” said police spokesperson Sergeant Suzan Jantjies.
“The suspect, who was armed and targeted the guard, fired one shot before fleeing the scene. However, no one was injured in the incident.”
Upon DistrictMail & Helderberg Gazette’s arrival at the scene, a significant section of Old Sir Lowry’s Pass Road had been cordoned off as authorities conducted a thorough search of the area as part of their investigation, with motorists heading towards Somerset West being redirected via the N2 highway.

Jantjies further said that swift police action led to the apprehension of six suspects through preliminary investigations. The suspects have been brought to Somerset West Police Station for questioning.
A case of cash-in-transit robbery has been opened and the investigation continues.
