When paging through a recent copy of DistrictMail & Helderberg Gazette a photo published on page 8 got me thinking (“Refusing to let world forget Gaza”, 15 April).

It depicted people holding up placards and a big poster on a road sign reading: “Strand 4 Palestine”. I was wondering if every resident of Strand felt part of this statement, whether each was consulted and gave permission to be included in this protest.

There are always those in favour or those against.

So speaking for all in Strand, as if everyone is on the same page on any contentious issue, is terribly presumptious, unethical and disingenuous. It is enough to stir unnecessary provocation up, as shown by the reaction of passing motorists.

Protest is not wrong; misinterpretation is.
