On Monday (16 May), Somerset West police held an Aids Candlelight Memorial Service in tribute to police members living with HIV/Aids and those claimed by the related illnesses. Somerset West Police Station Commander Colonel Jacolize Fleischmann pledged her support and commitment to colleagues battling the infection and remembering those who have passed on.The international Aids Candlelight Memorial, which started in 1983, takes place every third Sunday in May and is led by a coalition of 1 200 organisations in 115 countries.
