Somerset West and Boxer runner Kyla Jacobs crossed the line in third place at the SPAR Grand Prix race’s Cape Town leg in Green Point on Sunday (29 March).

The race was won by Tayla Kavanagh (centre) of Hollywood Athletics Club in a time of 31:33, followed by defending champion and Boxer athlete Glenrose Xaba in second (31:38).

Third-placed Jacobs, a mom of a one-year-old daughter (also pictured) clocked a time of 32:16, with the top seven women all dipping under 34 minutes in the pacy race.

After picking up a stress fracture in 2023 Jacobs had to undergo surgery and then took a break from competitive athletics for the birth of her first child, born in February last year.

She returned to action late last season and was delighted to prove she was back at her best following the weekend’s result.

“I’m happy to be back on the podium here with a new personal best,” she said after the race. “It shows I’m moving in the right direction. I still have big plans for the rest of the year, but Spar is always a fun event to be part of, so it’s great to be back racing with the girls.”
