Eight rugby players from the Helderberg were named in the Western Province primary schools’ under-13 squads last week, sparking well-deserved local pride across the basin.

The contingent spans schools in Macassar and Somerset West. Beaumont Primary School leads the way with four representatives โ€“ Xen McLachlan, Edwin Petersen, Dian Oosthuizen, and Eben de Villiers โ€“ while Luke Williams and Monray Haas fly the flag for Marvin Park Primary. Rakiem Mesias from False Bay Primary and Fu’aad Williams from Somerset West Primary complete the Helderberg group.

The announcements were met with an outpouring of well wishes on the schools’ social media pages.

The WP squads will compete at the 2026 SA Rugby under-13 Craven Week, hosted by Grey College in Bloemfontein from Monday 29 June to Friday 3 July. Preparations are already underway, with the squads holding its first training session at Jagtershof Sports Ground in Kuils Rivier on Tuesday 26 May.
