The Helderberg Rotary Anns and a group of knitters from the Somerset West area are ensuring that the elderly stay warm this winter. Rotary Ann Ingrid Edelson (centre) visited the Zandvliet Care Centre in Macassar on last month to handover crocheted and knitted blankets to the home. Caregivers Sunet Adams (left) and Karen Faro were on hand to receive the woollens.

The Zandvliet Care Facility in Macassar received a donation of adult nappies and toothbrushes from the Helderberg Rotary Anns on Tuesday 2 June. The donation, worth R10 000, comprised 900 pull-on adult nappies and 500 toothbushes, and was delivered by Rotary Anns (from left) Gayl Noon, Carold Vader, Ingrid Edelson and Pauline Brinkworth. The Rotary Anns appreciate how well residents are cared for and the facility is managed. The NPO has been operational for over 40 years, providing healthcare services to older persons and mental-health patients, as well as a 25-bed transitional care service. At any given time, around 170 persons are in the care of its staff. “Our facility is home to people from all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds. We rely heavily on donations from companies and individuals especially in winter, with donations like blankets, beanies, scarves and toiletries welcomed. One of our biggest needs are adult nappies. The Helderberg Rotary Club has been a constant source of blessing for us. Donations do make a difference. We would love to do a full on blanket drive this winter,” a statement from the Zandvliet Care Facility read. For more information on how to get involved or to donate, call Carl on
