Helderberg Pirates faced a tough outing on Saturday 17 October, falling 11-4 to Bellville Tygers in a challenging encounter played out on the wet and muddy diamonds of Radloff Park in Somerset West.

Tricky conditions wreaked havoc early on, leading to a series of detrimental fielding and throwing errors by the Pirates. Despite a promising start that saw the host put together two solid scoring innings, the defensive miscues allowed the Tygers to capitalise and bring in crucial runners, putting the home side firmly on the back foot.

Following the early errors, the Pirates struggled during subsequent turns at bat. Although the team’s hitters eventually came alive later in the game, leaving too many runners stranded on base – coupled with lingering dropped catches – allowed Bellville to pull away with the win.

Despite the lopsided final score, the squad is taking a constructive approach to the defeat. Acknowledging their errors has galvanised the team, significantly increasing morale and a shared commitment to improve before their next match.

. The Pirates will look to put the past weekend behind them as they prepare to host Bothasig this Saturday (24 October).
