Helderberg High School was buzzing on Sunday 19 April as local residents gathered for the Somerset West Community Health Expo, organised by Silverleaf Ministries and Be Free Lifestyle.

The initiative was aimed at helping the community stop ignoring the “small” warning signs of poor health and start taking proactive steps toward wellness.

The event, which ran from 10:00 to 14:00, served as a timely wake-up call for those who had spent months dismissing fatigue, brain fog and chronic stress.

Beverley Ramages and Pamela Peters were all smiles.

By focusing on common ailments like poor sleep, headaches and inflammation, the event provided a non-intimidating space for residents to check in on their physical and mental state. “We see so many people living with things their body has been trying to warn them about for months,” said one of the event coordinators.

“Sunday was about finally giving those people a clearer picture of their health.”

Highlights of the day included on-site health checks, which dozens of residents took advantage, as the free basic screenings gave them a snapshot of their vitals.

Wellness stalls were hosted by local vendors who showcased healthy food options and wellness products that focused on practical, everyday use.

Actionable advice was also on hand as those attending left with practical guidance and take-home resources they could implement immediately to combat “brain fog” and low energy.
