Officers of the City of Cape Town’s Metro Police arrested five suspects following a business robbery in Strand last Monday (13 July).

According to Metro Police spokesperson Ruth Solomons, officers were alerted shortly after 20:00 that four male suspects โ€“ two reportedly armed โ€“ had fled with about R10 000 in cash, vapes and other electronic goods. While patrolling in Nyanga, officers spotted the getaway vehicle linked to the robbery. They stopped the driver and recovered dozens of vapes in a black bag on the back seat. “The driver claimed his nephew had been using the vehicle during the robbery,” said Solomons.

Officers then went to an address in Delft, where they found four men. Two admitted involvement in the robbery and another directed officers to a hidden firearm with its serial number intact.

All five suspects were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property and an unlicensed firearm. They will also be linked to the business-robbery case being investigated by Strand police. Solomons said the firearm had previously been handed to police in KwaZulu-Natal for safekeeping. Investigations into how it came into the suspects’ possession are ongoing.
