A 60-year-old man was arrested after being found with Mandrax worth more than R2,1 million on Thursday 9 July.

The arrest took place during a routine vehicle checkpoint on the N2 highway in Grabouw.

A multi-disciplinary team comprising the Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB), provincial traffic based in Caledon and the Cape Town K9 Unit acted on intelligence to execute the arrest. A silver Audi was randomly stopped and a K9 narcotics dog reacted positively to what was in a hidden compartment. A further search uncovered the Mandrax tablets.

The man appeared in the Grabouw Magistrates’ Court last Monday (13 July).

A 28-year-old woman accused of housebreaking with intent to rob and robbery has been granted bail. Following an incident that occurred in Rasta Kamp in Sir Lowry’s Pass on Thursday 9 July, the woman was accused of assaulting a victim and forcibly stealing a cellphone.

She was arrested on the same day and made her first appearance in the Somerset West Magistrates’ Court the next day.

The women was granted bail of R1 000 with conditions that she refrain from contacting eye witnesses and comply with residence and reporting requirements to police during specified hours.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for Friday 21 September.
