Somerset West: The SOMERSET WEST UNITARIAN FELLOWSHIP hosts a talk on “Did we discover mathematics or create it?” at the Rotary Club of Somerset West at 10:00. Rev. Roux Malan explores one of humanity’s oldest questions – do we discover truth or create meaning? Drawing on the philosophy of mathematics and the history of religion, Malan considers whether mathematics and religion are discovered or created – and what this means for how we understand reality itself. Somerset West: The U3A in Somerset West will hold its next South Africa Today gethering at the Somerset West United church on the corner of Andries Pretorius and Bright streets from 14:00 to 15:30. Estian Calitz, professor emeritus in economics and research fellow at Stellenbosch University, will present on “Fiscal and Economic Policy Options for South Africa”. Why did South Africa’s competitive ranking drop from 39 in 2002 to 64 (worst) in 2025 from 64 countries selected, while China climbed from position 31 to 16 in the same period? Parking is available at the rear of the church and at the Bright Street entrance, with gates that open automatically upon approach. Back from a sold-out run at the National Arts Festival, the 80-minute production promises an experience as informative as it is entertaining — a glittering, joyful tribute to music’s most unforgettable women. Somerset West: The REACH FOR RECOVERY breast cancer support group invites residents of the Helderberg and Stellenbosch to a free talk by specialist surgeon Dr Dewald Coolen on “The role of robotics in breast cancer surgery”. The talk will be held at 09:30 for 10:00 in the Training and Development Room at Mediclinic Vergelegen. Anyone is welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served after the talk.
