Maitland Police Flying Squad members arrested a 42-year-old suspect during a tracing operation in Somerset West this past Saturday (12 July).
The suspect, who is wanted in connection with an attempted-murder case in Bishop Lavis, was arrested after being found with two firearms. He faces charges of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition and was due to appear before the Bishop Lavis Magistrates’ Court this week.
The Maitland Flying Squad were tasked with tracing a Toyota Hilux implicated the attempted murder in Bishop Lavis earlier that day. The incident saw a security officer reportedly shot by a colleague.
The arrest follows after vigilant police officer’s located the vehicle abandoned in Somerset West and immediately began a search for the driver. Their persistence paid off when they spotted the suspect in the distance and initiated a pursuit.
Upon noticing the police, the suspect dropped two firearms and was immediately apprehended.
